Trump asks Supreme Court to revive federal voter list and mail-ballot limits

The blocked order would create a federal citizenship list and restrict ballot delivery to voters on it.

A Massachusetts judge blocked those provisions in the 23 states that sued, finding the executive order intruded on election authority assigned to states and Congress; the First Circuit left the injunction in place. Solicitor General D. John Sauer argues the challenge is premature because federal agencies have not finalized how they would implement the order.

SCOTUSblog reports that the Supreme Court ordered the states to respond by 4 p.m. Eastern on Monday, Aug. 3. Sauer also asked for an immediate administrative stay that would temporarily lift the lower-court order while the justices consider the broader request.
