The Strategic Petroleum Reserve has no single countdown

DOE planned the current 172-million-barrel emergency release over roughly 120 days—an average near 1.4 million barrels a day. But GAO says the reserve has no current target size or updated long-term plan, and aging equipment may limit how quickly oil can be withdrawn in future emergencies. Its practical endurance therefore depends on infrastructure and replacement policy as well as the barrel count.
