Trump's voting push stalls after narrower photo-ID bill falls eight votes short

Cloture on S. 5271 failed 52-46; three Republican senators say they will revisit parts of the broader SAVE America Act in September.

Senators began a five-week recess early Saturday without passing President Donald Trump's SAVE America Act. A separate, narrower bill requiring photo identification for federal elections also stalled: the Senate voted 52-46 to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 5271, with two senators not voting. Sixty votes were required, leaving the bill eight short.
