Kushner asks Israel to take small steps in Gaza to test Hamas disarmament
The envoy went from a Hamas leader to the prime minister's office in the same trip.
Special envoy Jared Kushner met Benjamin Netanyahu (Prime Minister, Israel) on Monday, after talks with a leader of Hamas, which the U.S. designates a terrorist group. A U.S. official, who was not named, said Kushner asked Israel to take unspecified "small steps" in Gaza to test whether Hamas will start to disarm.
UPDATE
Yesterday we reported that Hamas told Kushner in Egypt it still plans to disarm and demilitarize Gaza. What is new today is what Kushner is asking of the other side: small, reversible Israeli steps to test whether that plan is real.
