[UPDATE] Brent oil exceeds $100 a barrel; US diesel reaches $5.94 a gallon

The Energy Information Administration raised its forecast for average diesel prices in 2027 to $4.40 a gallon from $4.07, Axios reports.

The strikes. Brent crude (an international benchmark used to price oil) traded above $100 a barrel on Wednesday, Sept. 9, for the first time since July. U.S. Central Command struck five Iranian tankers on Tuesday, Sept. 8 — four in the Gulf of Oman and one near Kharg Island — PBS NewsHour reports. Houthi attacks also hit Saudi oil facilities. Pump prices. U.S. regular gasoline averaged $4.22 a gallon, up 7 cents from the previous day (Sept. 8). The Energy Information Administration expects distillate inventories (stored fuels including diesel and heating oil) to fall below 100 million barrels in September. That would put supplies below the 2021–2025 low, where the agency expects them to remain through much of 2027, Axios reports.
