US proposes an AI incident hotline with China; next talks set for Shenzhen in November

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the U.S. proposed a way for the two countries to warn each other about AI incidents that reach the national-security level. He made the pitch to Vice Premier He Lifeng in New York, days before Thursday's Trump-Xi summit. USTR Jamieson Greer said the AI talks will not change U.S. export controls on advanced chips. China's Xinhua readout left the proposal out.
