Senate Democrats can force an Iran war powers vote this week, needing five Republican crossovers
The push follows seven House GOP defections and candidate breaks over fuel prices.
Lead sponsor Andy Kim (Sen-D New Jersey) picked up retiring Thom Tillis (Sen-R North Carolina), but zero war powers resolutions have become law since fighting began in February.
Where the votes stand:
- Seven House Republicans defected last week to pass a companion war powers resolution.
- John Fetterman (Sen-D Pennsylvania) opposes the resolution, keeping the Senate threshold at five crossovers.
- GOP Senate nominee Mike Rogers (R-MI) urged ending the war as national diesel topped $6.50 a gallon.
