Republicans move Senate money to defend Texas and send Trump to Ohio as Georgia and North Carolina slip
Five weeks out, GOP strategists are looking past Mike Collins's challenge to Jon Ossoff (Sen-D Georgia) and flagging serious trouble in North Carolina.
Some Republicans blame Trump for the unpopular Iran war. They also fault him for brushing off fuel prices and for acting late. Paul Shoemaker, a GOP strategist in North Carolina, says Republicans have a turnout problem. He says the cause is the administration's failure to deal with voters' economic worries.
Where the GOP map moved:
- Midterms are five weeks away.
- Defense spending: Texas; Trump campaign stop: Ohio — both GOP-held seats.
- Pulling back: Georgia (Collins vs. Ossoff) and North Carolina.
