U.S. deported 12 Afghans to the Central African Republic, including a man protected from return to Afghanistan, advocates say.

His lawyer said his brothers had worked with the U.S. military and that a judge protected him from return to Afghanistan because he feared Taliban persecution. AP reported that Saturday’s flight was the second U.S. deportation flight to the Central African Republic since June. The protection order barred his return to Afghanistan; U.S. authorities instead sent him to the Central African Republic.
