USDA is closing two of its three cyclospora research projects and moving the third from Maryland to Iowa. Congress did not include the two closed projects in fiscal 2026 funding; USDA says none of the research has been disrupted. The Guardian reports more than 17,000 confirmed cyclosporiasis cases across 48 states and Washington, D.C., in the current outbreak. The same report says the surviving project's scientists have all reportedly declined to move to Iowa.
