On Saturday, Oct. 10, the U.S. imposed sweeping sanctions on the ICC itself, including a ban on U.S. entities doing business with it, per NPR and the BBC. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he wants "our Allies within the Court to work for solutions to end this threat to U.S. sovereignty forever." The U.S. is not a member: it never ratified the Rome Statute, the treaty that created the court, which claims jurisdiction over acts on its members' territory, including by Americans.

Before this move, the U.S. had sanctioned 17 ICC judges and officials over the court's rulings.
