U.S. crude settled at $101.41 a barrel, its highest close since Sept. 17, per Reuters.
Brent, the global oil benchmark, touched $110 a barrel on Friday, Oct. 16, and sat near $109.75 late in the afternoon, per The Hill. That was its first time at $110 since May 20. The jump followed reports that Saudi-led forces intercepted missiles aimed at energy hubs. Regular gasoline averages $4.33 a gallon, per AAA. GasBuddy estimates Americans have spent $135 billion more on gasoline and diesel since March 1 than in the same stretch last year. Diesel prices are covered in the story on Trump's Russia sanctions waiver.
Still open. Reports so far describe interceptions, not damage. Neither Saudi Aramco nor the Saudi energy ministry has published any lost production or export volume.
