At a Monday, Oct. 19 hearing, Judge Ana Reyes asked whether to believe DOJ lawyers, who called the golf course plans preliminary, or Trump, who set a Nov. 15 closure. She said there is 'no universe in which all of this just coincidentally happened at the same time,' and said she will extend her order blocking further tree removal.

Just before 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, ahead of a holiday weekend, the government told the court the Park Service would start cutting trees at East Potomac Golf Links the next day. Hundreds came down before Judge Ana Reyes extended a halt. Trump then announced the course would close for 15 months for a renovation. His own lawyers told the judge the plans were still preliminary.
