Four states seek $200 billion from Meta over child-safety design
The first trial in a 29-state case turns on how the apps were built, not what users posted.
California, Colorado, Kentucky and New Jersey are the first of 29 states to go to trial, and they want damages plus changes to how Meta runs Facebook and Instagram. They say Meta built the apps to keep minors hooked even after it learned the mental-health risks. Former employee Arturo Béjar testified that the company put user growth ahead of child safety. Meta denies the claims and says it stands by its record of protecting minors.
