Consumer confidence hits a seven-month low as the outlook turns darker
The overall index barely moved, but expectations fell 5.8 points even as views of current conditions improved.
The Consumer Confidence Index slipped 0.8 points to 89.4 in August from 90.2 in July, its lowest reading in seven months. Readings were consistently above 100 in late 2024 and early 2025. The Aug. 3–16 survey found elevated concern about prices, oil and gas, war, trade, and jobs.
