Judge strikes down provisions allowing speech-based deportation of noncitizens living in the U.S.
The decision covers people already living in the U.S., not the separate rules for entering the country.
Judge Noël Wise ruled Friday that provisions used to revoke visas and deport noncitizens for protected speech violated the First and Fifth Amendments. The Stanford Daily and a student visa holder sued after students stopped writing, declined assignments or sought anonymity because they feared removal.
