Warsh says the Fed may need to raise rates because inflation has not eased
The next decision is in mid-September; July’s 9–3 vote kept rates at 3.5%–3.75%.
Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said Friday at Jackson Hole that underlying inflation had not meaningfully improved. He did not commit to a September increase. Officials will receive another price report shortly before their next meeting; three dissented in July because they wanted a quarter-point rise.
