Two US airmen downed by Iranian missile on April 2 were rescued, one after two days

60 Minutes aired newly declassified footage and the first interview with one of the officers on Sunday, Sept. 13. Their $30 million F-15E was downed by a roughly $100,000 shoulder-fired missile during a strike on drone and missile plants south of Isfahan.

• Alpha was recovered 8 hours after ejecting by a 21-aircraft daylight mission.
• Bravo hit the ground 5 miles away at 70-100 mph with a damaged parachute, broke his back, arm and shoulder, then climbed a 7,000-foot ridge and evaded capture for 2 days.
• The US had flown about 13,000 missions to that point, with 18 service members killed five weeks into the war.
