Trump promises $5,000 checks to every adult US citizen if Republicans hold the House and Senate

The plan would cost about $1.2 trillion; tariffs (taxes on imports) now bring in about $125 billion a year, per Tax Foundation economist Erica York.

The COVID comparison: $837.5 billion: the three COVID stimulus-check rounds combined, according to GAO's payment accounting through December 2021. Supreme Court blocks Missouri from using 7-1 Republican map in November

The unsigned order listed no dissents, and Secretary of State Denny Hoskins then ordered counties back to the 2022 6-2 lines hours after the ruling.

On Sept. 10 the Missouri Supreme Court opened a contempt inquiry into Secretary of State Denny Hoskins after he directed local offices to use the 2025 map despite the court's Sept. 3 order barring it.

ContextOnly two House elections since 1990 — Texas in 1996 and North Carolina in 1998 — ran November under different lines than the primary, 2 of 18 cycles through 2024. Missouri follows the North Carolina fix rather than the Texas one; Texas in 1996 voided its primaries and reran them as November specials.

Anthropic’s report says foreign adversaries used Claude to help build surveillance systems and military targeting tools

The stakes include stolen defense technology, repression and weapons development.

Russia — defense secrets: State-linked hackers stole drone-company emails and proprietary software. A separate, apparently freelance team developed autonomous attack-drone software, tested in simulation and on hardware; combat deployment was not established. China — targeting and repression: A defense researcher built software simulating attacks on Taiwan’s air defenses. Separately, a government-aligned operation profiled Uyghurs abroad, including family ties usable as leverage; recruitment outcomes remained unverified. Iran — ships and citizens: One actor compiled targeting recommendations against US naval forces. Separately, security-linked units shipped identity-harvesting software supporting domestic surveillance. Planning an attack is not evidence it happened. State-aligned propagandists also fabricated claims attributed to CSIS, Brookings and RAND. Yemen — beyond a chatbot: A weapons cell test-fired a guided rocket, apparently unsuccessfully, then sought Claude’s troubleshooting help. Mali — banning accounts cannot undo everything: A surveillance platform covering roughly 25 million SIMs ran locally; Anthropic’s account ban did not stop it.
