Cornell agrees to outside review of how it handled a student's gang rape lawsuit against 7 Chi Phi members
The Tompkins County district attorney has reopened the criminal case, but says he never saw her rape claim.
Kathy Hochul (Gov-D New York) called for the review after a former student's 101-page civil suit said seven Chi Phi members drugged and raped her in October 2024, per the Washington Examiner. The Tompkins County DA then reopened the criminal case.
What else is on the record:
- Cornell expelled 2 students after its own Title IX investigation, per BBC and Axios. Those reports do not say whether the 2 are among the seven named in the suit.
- The DA's account and ABC's report conflict. He says he never saw her rape claim, but ABC reports her 2024 statement was 'central' to his decision not to charge.
