Trump says South Korea will put about $54 billion into the Alaska LNG pipeline

Announced beside Dan Sullivan (Sen-R Alaska), who is in a tight race with Mary Peltola (D-AK)

The money is about 15% of the $350 billion South Korea pledged in its 2025 tariff deal, and timing and financing are still uncertain.

The project and the pitch:

  • The 807-mile pipeline would run from the North Slope to a southern Alaska export terminal; the build is projected at 3 years, with exports 2 years later if financing comes through.
  • Korea's announced US energy investments also include a Texas gas plant and eight nuclear plants.
  • Bloomberg calls it the second such Oval Office announcement this week in a battleground Senate state, after Iowa.
