Forest Service moves to open 44 million roadless acres to logging and roads

The U.S. Forest Service proposed on Aug. 18 to repeal the 2001 Roadless Rule, which bars road building and timber harvesting in roadless parts of the national forests. It is only a proposal, so those bans hold until the repeal is final.
