Brent oil exceeds $100 a barrel; US diesel reaches $5.94 a gallon

The Energy Information Administration raised its forecast for average diesel prices in 2027 to $4.40 a gallon from $4.07, Axios reports.

The strikes. Brent crude (an international benchmark used to price oil) traded above $100 a barrel on Wednesday, Sept. 9, for the first time since July. U.S. Central Command struck five Iranian tankers on Tuesday, Sept. 8 — four in the Gulf of Oman and one near Kharg Island — PBS NewsHour reports. Houthi attacks also hit Saudi oil facilities.

Pump prices. U.S. regular gasoline averaged $4.22 a gallon, up 7 cents from the previous day (Sept. 8). Diesel reached $5.94 a gallon on Sept. 9, compared with the Energy Information Administration’s $5.60 observation on Aug. 31. PBS NewsHour
