[UPDATE] Judge turns her block on Trump's mail-voting order into a preliminary injunction

North Carolina started mailing general-election ballots Friday, Sept. 4.

A federal judge barred the Postal Service from carrying out Trump's order restricting mail voting. Nearly one-third of U.S. voters vote by mail. Judge Indira Talwani issued the order. The administration has already asked the Supreme Court to lift her earlier order, and will appeal to the 1st Circuit as well.

Sep. 5 — Talwani first blocked the Postal Service from putting Trump's mail-voting limits in place. The first 2026 general-election ballots were about to go out.
