House passes the Ratepayer Protection Act, telling state regulators to weigh making data centers pay their own power and grid costs

The House passed the Ratepayer Protection Act on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The bill would push state utility regulators to consider rules that make data centers cover the cost of the power lines, substations and generation their facilities require, instead of spreading those costs across everyone else's monthly bills. The vote was 417-3. What next. The measure goes to the Senate, which has not scheduled a vote.
