ICE bans car chases and lets only specially trained officers make traffic stops
ICE officers can no longer chase cars that won't pull over
A memo issued Wednesday (Sept. 30) bars ICE officers from chasing vehicles that don't stop. It also bars PIT maneuvers, where an officer bumps a fleeing car to spin it out.
The new limits:
- Only government vehicles with lights and sirens may make stops (ABC News).
- The limits apply to ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officers (ABC News).
- Only officers with specific agency training may make traffic stops.
