[UPDATE] U.S. presses Germany and France to release emergency diesel stockpiles, threatening a U.S. export ban

Britain held calls with EU partners on a release; U.S. diesel averages $6.38 a gallon, up 70% since the Iran war began.

The administration is now pressing Germany and France to release emergency diesel stockpiles, holding a U.S. export ban over them. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Europe would announce new diesel supplies, while Trade Representative Jamieson Greer was more guarded.

Trump said a diesel export ban was still on the table but showed less appetite for it.

Why Europe would feel a ban:

  • Europe's own refineries make only about 70% of the diesel it uses.
  • About one-third of the UK's diesel imports came from the U.S. last year.
