Justice Samuel Alito, 76, says he considered retiring after last term but stayed and will reconsider yearly
In a CBS interview airing Monday, Oct. 5, he also said overturning Roe took "courage."
Alito told CBS he "thought about" leaving but believed he could still make a valuable contribution, and he called harsh criticism of the Court from Presidents Biden and Trump "quite damaging."
What else Alito said:
- On Dobbs: "it required courage to go ahead with that because of the implications."
- On rulings: "There are cases that have resulted in the loss of old friendships."
- He described threats against justices as a danger.
