Treasury sanctions two French charities and three people over $2M+ sent to Hamas; six arrested

Arrests split three in the U.S., three in France; alleged organizer is a Hamas battalion deputy still at large in Gaza.

The Justice Department unsealed an indictment against alleged organizer Saleem Alzaq, which says his network collected about $1.7 million through fake humanitarian fundraising and cryptocurrency, slightly below Treasury's $2 million-plus total for 2020–2026.

  • About $1.5 million was allegedly raised after the Oct. 7, 2023 attack.
  • Tampa-area defendant Raed Yousef allegedly gave the network nearly $50,000 (single-outlet figure, Washington Examiner).
