Justice Samuel Alito, 76, says he will serve through June 2027, ruling out a lame-duck retirement
His new book calls the same-sex marriage ruling 'perhaps the decisive point' in the nation's turn against religious liberty.
Retiring in the lame duck would have let Trump name a successor before a possibly Democratic Senate is seated, but Alito said, "I intend to stick around through this term. I made that decision many months ago."

- Book: 'So Ordered: An Originalist's View of The Constitution, The Court and Our Country' says Obergefell (2015) was "perhaps the decisive point in our nation's turn against religious liberty."
- On Trump-administration rhetoric about the court, he told PBS NewsHour: "I personally am not pleased with that."
