Eight states sue OpenAI, saying it misled parents about ChatGPT's safety for children
A bipartisan coalition says OpenAI rushed ChatGPT to market despite known harms to kids.
Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, West Virginia, Arkansas, Arizona, Idaho and Montana filed coordinated lawsuits against OpenAI over its ChatGPT chatbot.
On the record:
- Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird: OpenAI "knew that they were hurting children, lying to parents and breaking our laws."
- OpenAI points to its age protections and parental controls.
- OpenAI spokesman Drew Pusateri wants AI rules that "apply to the entire AI industry, not just one company."
