Five senior House Republicans tell Politico the House has all but slipped away

Party money is shifting from saving House seats to protecting the Senate majority.

One of the five predicted Democrats would gain about 10 seats. Party money is moving to limit House losses and defend Senate seats under pressure in Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas, but the White House says it is not giving up.

Who said what:

  • Last week the party gave up on the Omaha-based seat of retiring Don Bacon (Rep-R Nebraska).
  • Bacon, on the record, blamed the president's polling numbers and unfavorables.
  • An unnamed senior House Republican: "President Trump has made this election all about himself. Now we have to survive that political storm."
