Putin proposes a Trump-Xi-Putin meeting; Trump says he would join to discuss denuclearization, not Ukraine
The meeting could come around the mid-November APEC summit in Shenzhen; China has given no sign it will host one.
Putin has twice raised the three-way summit with Trump by phone, most recently last week, and Zelensky was not invited. Trump said Monday, Oct. 19, "I would do it, not so much for Ukraine, we would have it to talk about denuclearization."
Where the summit stands:
- Timing: possibly around the APEC leaders' meeting in Shenzhen, mid-November, where Trump is expected to travel
- Ukraine: Zelensky was not part of the proposal
- China: has not said it is willing to hold the meeting
