Energy Secretary Chris Wright says Trump expected a short-run price hit from the Iran war and accepted it
Wright quotes Trump: "I'm going to take a hit there, but I got to do the right thing."
On Face the Nation, Wright said Trump was "well aware of the risks to energy flows" before the war. Wright "absolutely" expects gas and diesel prices to fall before Election Day, with diesel going below $6, down from a U.S. average of $6.38 a gallon on Sept. 28.
Diesel by the numbers:
- Diesel recently topped $6.50 a gallon, above the $6.38 U.S. average on Sept. 28
- Diesel has since dropped a little over 20 cents a gallon
- Wright's window for the drop: the next four weeks, through the Nov. 3 election
