[UPDATE] Trump calls Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed a "Jihadist lunatic" after his first debate with Mike Rogers
Strategists in both parties say the debate produced no knockout.
Shortly after midnight Trump posted that Mike Rogers (R-MI) "obliterated" El-Sayed (D-MI) and that "Mohammad is a Jihadist lunatic who hates our Country," and El-Sayed answered, "He knows my name is Abdul. He says it every day."
PREVIOUSLY
- Sep. 23 — Kamala Harris campaigned in Detroit to firm up Black support for El-Sayed in a seat Democrats must hold.
- Oct. 6 — Obama scheduled an Oct. 24 Detroit rally for El-Sayed, timed to the first day of Michigan's statewide early voting.
- Oct. 8 — Rogers, in an NRSC co-funded ad, called for ending the Canada tariff war now; that night the two traded personal attacks in their first debate.
The Michigan math so far:
- Rogers lost Michigan's 2024 Senate race to Elissa Slotkin by just under 20,000 votes.
- Democrats need to flip 4 Republican-held seats, and hold Michigan, to win the Senate.
- In Maine's debate the same night, Susan Collins (Sen-R Maine) said she has voted against Trump 137 times this Congress.
