Pennsylvania reports sixth measles death in under two months as outbreak reaches 1,136 cases
The state's outbreak is the nation's worst and the first in the U.S. to pass 1,000 cases since 1991.
The latest victim was an unvaccinated 39-year-old Franklin County woman with underlying conditions, and the state counted 219 hospitalizations as of Friday, Oct. 9.
- Dr. Paul Offit told NBC News the true count is "probably closer to 6,000 cases," saying officials are "vastly underestimating" it.
- Last U.S. outbreak to top 1,000 cases before this one: 1991 (The Washington Post).
